Peace can exist within oneself, one’s community and in the greater world. Peace is something you can do, feel and create.
Come and join us at the Gallery on Saturday, July 18th and Saturday, August 1st between 11am-3pm to help create a series of ‘stained glass’ chalk murals. This collaborative art activity is meant to encourage you to contemplate the idea of peace and create art reflective of our community’s needs, hopes and aspirations.
Connecting with our exhibition Public Art in Glass, the creation of these ‘stained glass’ chalk murals is meant to demonstrate the ways in which public glass art tells stories, exemplifies ideas, beautifies spaces, and reflects community interests. When arriving you will find pre-taped ‘stained glass’ designs in the front of the Gallery, and a selection of chalk. Gallery staff will be present to guide you through our safety procedures and details of the project.
Questions to ask yourself:
- What activities do you do that make you feel peaceful?
- When you think of peace, what imagery comes to mind?
- How can we create peace within our community?
Masks, sanitizer and gloves will be provided. We ask that all participants practice safe physical distancing (2 metres apart) while joining us for this event. The number of people able to participate at one time will be monitored by our facilitators, but all are welcome to come explore the Gallery while they wait for their turn to participate. We want to create a space to safely communicate, collaborate, and have fun while following our safety measures.
This event is generously supported by the Rotary Club of Kitchener Grand River.
